Apeiron 3

Schöpfer     This room belongs to all:
    It has no borders,
    No mountain, no ocean,
Not even the laws of nature
    Can stop its colonisation.
I call it the Pearly Gate.
Chorus The Pearly Gate!
The12 pearly gates of the new Jerusalem.
Schöpfer     Make it colourful.
    Make it beautiful.
    Make it big.
    Make it wide.
Programmers We'll make it sexy – and holy – and moly
We'll make it biz – and oky – and doky
We'll make it cool – and crazy – and hazy.
Chorus
Now you can watch a sorry game
When everyone just stakes their claim
And does not listen to the rest,
    just pushing their own interest.
A sorry game, a sorry end
When all you do is to pretend
You finally will flee this strife
within the short span of your life.
Schöpfer     Make it captivating
    Make it glitter
    Make it enticing
    Make it grand
Robert     Hi Kaysa,
Please cancel the investors' meeting in London. Not             every ladder leads to heaven, says our Don, and he's           right about that. He doesn't need cautious partners. He         needs partners that want to make money.
Christine, I'll be late - I can't find – oh, yes wonderful.             Always nice to hear your voice. I'll be late. I can't find a           parking place here.
Chorus     How fickle fortune seems today,
It does not always come your way.
Shareholders do not care at all
To see the writing on the wall.
A fortune gained, a fortune lost,
The risk is great and high the cost.
Kaysa Christine, where are you? Not getting any replies from you for the past thirty minutes. Hell's broken loose at the airport. The stock markets are dropping rapidly and people are losing it. They're staring at  the rates on the display tickers the way they'd normally watch giant projections of football matches. Don't know my way around Zurich. Please find me a suitable hotel. It's urgent, I must know my position and how to go on. Kaysa.
Chorus Those were his feelings then, but hey!
His shares are up again today.
And once again he starts to pant
And starts to sing the same old chant
About great treasures and true bliss
That he is certain will be his.
Christine Hi Kaysa, so sorry. Was away just for a little while. Once again Bob had difficulties finding a parking place again. That's why I rushed down with fresh coffee and waited for his Porsche to roll by. He was pleased and we talked for a few minutes. Just a little chat. Then  came the news that the rates were falling. He started to phone frantically and raced off with the coffee. I thought I should show him some concern. I'll take care of Zurich, I'll call back as soon as possible and am hoping you're okay despite all this stress.
Schöpfer Kaysa, tell our Don Rome wasn't built in a day. We need a few capable freelancers to go into detail. The programmers are a right pain.
Christine Kaysa, the programmers spent 100,000 dollars on computer games this week.
Grünwald submitted restaurant bills for over 5,000 this month. The artworkers bought music CDs for 10,000, books for 2,000 and magazine subscriptions for 2,000 a month.
The 18 new company cars were delivered with GPS and CD-changers. That represents a 20% increase in the leasing rate per vehicle. Can I let that pass? I asked Bob Robert and he looked at me and said our Don's comment would be: "Eating into the capital till nothing's left." Now I'm not at all sure what to do.
A short pause, then a thunderstorm of keyboard clattering in the background.

Robert Kaysa, good morning. There are no car parks in this city. Not even a multi-storey one. Our Don has rejected a re-calculation. The time for the talk was unfavourable. The rates went down. That always puts him in a bad mood. I'll try to bring it up again when the markets go back up.
Chorus We ask with some hesitation
If the lean years of the past
Were really the years of plenty?
Schöpfer  This room belongs to all
  It has no borders,
  No mountain, no ocean,
Not even the laws of nature
  Can stop its colonisation.
   I shall call it Apeiron.
Chorus   To get a share you must be able
To grab and tip the gaming table.

Not many dare to start from here.
   The punishment is too severe.
A swindler cannot not take a stand.
He will be found out and be banned.

    From this disastrous danger zone
Two roads would lead you to the throne.
The artless and the artful came
To beat the others at their game.

Well now! Let's in amazement watch
If this new player is top notch
In playing unfair, if he copes
And can fulfill his biggest hopes.
Kaysa     Schöpfer, Grünwald's sabotaging.
He's dispatching dossiers to our Don.

Schöpfer,  just because you're not paranoid doesn't              mean they're not out to get you. Grünwald's writing our          Don that your concepts are no good.
Schöpfer    Kaysa, fire him.
Bob   Kaysa, Bob speaking. No need to hurry. I see nothing but     great times. Grünwald stays. We bought him and his firm     at a high price.
Kaysa Schöpfer, please don't keep changing the project name. It's called Gameland. "Apeiron" according to Bob, but our Don's never heard of it. Anyway, nobody here knows what that's supposed to mean.

To all. The project is making enormous progress. Your input has added value to the concept.
Schöpfer Kaysa, it seems our Don backs the wrong people, cares about the wrong things, has the wrong consultants.
Kaysa He's an idiot.
Schöpfer I don't think so. Just remember his where he is: Paris, Venice, Luxor. Venues of high culture.
Kaysa Schöpfer, now listen to me. Paris, Venice and Luxor are hotels. Our Don, my dear, drives through Las Vegas in an army green Ferrari and resides in the luxury suites of the casinos.
Robert Kaysa. Our Don's losing patience. He says: You can't have your cake and eat it too. That's a really serious sign. We must get much much faster, or else we're in for it.
Kaysa, what makes our Don think we'll have something to show him within six weeks? We won't even manage to do that in six months' time. We've only just begun.
Kaysa Schöpfer, think of alternatives. Within six weeks we have to have a thing going that'll convince our Don.

Schöpfer, our Don wants the presentation of a first version in six weeks' time. Will we be able to deliver?
Schöpfer No, Kaysa. No.
Kaysa Think up small solutions. Listen to me. Take it seriously.
